 | DaVinci not detecting 4 580 GTXs
by Scott Shropshire on Feb 20, 2012 at 10:35:43 am |
Hey guys, I have davince resolve, the 8.4 beta.
I looked at the install guide, have the proper driver installed but I can't get the program to detect all 4 cards, it only shows 1 gpu.
Red footage is a slideshow in the program.
I've tried everything I can think of besides a complete windows reinstall.
Does anyone have any tips?
I'm running an Asus Maximus V motherboard, and 4 EVGA 580gtx classified edition cards.

[Scott Shropshire] "have the proper driver installed"
That should be "drivers". If RESOLVE is not seeing multiple GPUs, (and I don't know which driver you have actually installed) then my guess would be that you don't have the proper CUDA-support driver installed. This varies slightly among OS implementations, and I run Mac, so which is the right combination for your Windows platform will take a little bit of searching.

Do all four cards show up in the hardware profiler? I assume this is a Win-7 64bit OS?

RED is not decoded in the GPU, so a "slideshow" isn't really unexpected unless you've got a rocket or a couple of kick ass CPUs.
What CPU do you have installed?

Yes, I'm on 4.1.28 for the cuda toolkit.
It only shows 1 GPU in the about screen.
I'm running the Intel Core i7-3960X.
I do have a red rocket but it is not in this machine.
Is there something I'm missing?

Are there any monitors connected to the unrecognized GPUs?

Thanks for the help guys.
I do have the lite version, it's the full version.
I have 3 30inch screens, and some are hooked into the unrecognized GPUs.
I'm sorry guys I was tired when I last posted. I'm not running an Asus maximus but an Asus Rampage IV.
All the GPUs are showing up, I can even run quad SLI in video games.
Sorry for the confusion on the motherboard!
Any other ideas? Thank you again for the help!

Well, unhook the monitors. See what happens.
Oh, and are you connecting those GPUs using SLI connectors? Don't do that.

Can you describe the machine? With 4 GTX-580 cards and that motherboard I have to assume it is water-cooled? Also that board will support 2 X16 slots and a x8 slot, what slots the GPU's are in? From the specs on Asus's website I don't think that board will support four cards. Are all four GPUs show up in the Windows-7 system profiler?

Is it Lite or licensed?

Probably best to just test with one GTX580 first. I And I don't think the motherboard has 4 x PCIe x16 slots to accommodate the four GTX580 cards. You may need to get a Cubix Desktop 4 instead.

Also to re state what Ola said... is it licensed? Or Lite?
Lite will only run 1 GPU I believe...

*I don't have the lite version, it's the full version.
so should support 3 gpus.
Thanks guys.

Check in Windows Device Manager, and verify in the Display Adapters section that Windows actually sees all those cards properly. I would not be surprised if you see some yellow !'s there.

Tried without monitors hooked up to bottom 3 cards, and without quad sli bridge. Still says 1 gpu in davinci. All 4 cards are detected properly by windows (no conflicts or errors)
Also, all 4 cards show up in the cuda toolkit no issues there.
Could it be that resolve doesn't support gpus running in x8 pci-e mode?

I would try pulling one card out and running 3 GPUs because with that board and the four cards you are out of PCIe lanes.

Thanks guys!
