I know it says in the release notes that the new 'lite' beta is restricted to 2 nodes, but does anyone know if that is the case? I've currently got lite running with unlimited nodes after receiving an email detailing that feature late last year.

where do you see that 2 nodes limit?
from november '11, Lite is supporting unlimited nodes on mac, and windows.

from release notes for 8.2 Beta 3:
DaVinci Resolve Lite includes all the same high quality processing of the full
DaVinci Resolve. However it limits projects to HD resolutions or less, only
two color correction nodes, a single processing GPU and a single RED rocket
card. Stereoscopic 3D features, noise reduction, Power Mastering, remote
grading, and sharing projects using an external database server are features
only ofered in the full DaVinci Resolve and so are not included in this free
DaVinci Resolve Lite edition. Customers who want to eliminate these
restrictions can purchase the full DaVinci Resolve Software for only US$995.
I know they've been offering unlimited nodes, was just wondering wether anyone who had done the upgrade could confirm.

Charlie : well it say that since B1 ...i have a list of bug /issue ... if they fix something it would be nice know what ...
i have the feeling we lost a bit of communication with BMD (perfectly understandable when you have thousands of people complaining /requesting about a free software ...)
ps: for what is worth i still vote for an "expensive" (certainly more than 1K) PRO version of resolve , that have more support etc...

Supposedly Beta-3 for Windows has the ability to write Pro-Res, that is pretty big.

Tested it earlier today - it does indeed render ProRes (but not 4444). It feels like this should be bigger news!

Vladimir, could please post your ProRes render fps and your system specs, please?
| | | | |
• | | | |
I'm getting the same 7-8fps that others seem to be getting with pro-res HQ output. This is with a Mac pro 2.66ghz 12-core with Windows under bootcamp. Source footage is uncompressed QuickTime 1080/23.98. Osx on the same machine is around 25fps.
Just for comparison, the other format we export to regularly, mxf 115, gets around 37fps in Windows and only 21 in Osx.
| | | | |
• | | | |
Around 8 fps was what I was getting but I wasn't sure if this was because I was reading/writing media on the same drive, as opposed to a RAID.
So the slow render is just a pro-res on windows issue it seems?

Totally agree with you on the price point, but I would love even more for that DaVinci Lite nonsense to end. It doesn't work well, it's super buggy, it's taking resources away from DaVinci, and it's tarnishing its reputation.
And in case you haven't noticed, the quality of questions in this forum lowered a lot too.

I couldn't agree more :)
Maybe its time for a new Forum.
Its getting a little out of hand how many different configuration people have and most of the problems are related to if they are able to run it.
I would suggest we are have a Pro-User Forum where we can discuss actually project related topics when we already reached the limits of the software, not our capabilities or the ones of the hardware.
It might also help Blackmagic identifying real bugs or problems.

i am on it for the new forum , but how we setup a pro forum without having accessional user jumping In ? maybe the user have to be accepted and monitored by the administrator ?
i rally wish that the Dav team could understand how this Lite thing is transforming everything into a Mess , not good for their name either , for their support , for the forums etc...
I strongly wish that new update will be called "Resolve DI , or PRO or something like that , and will be targeted a higher price
Also : one note about this beta : red have new SDK and new RR driver for a while , resolve did not changed that for a while even now that is in Beta... there are BIG bugs reported (by myself directly to them for sure and on the forum ( like the fact that resolve automatically replace matching TC shot on the timeline without giving the C conflict and so loosing grade etc.. (i suggested a "quick fix " adding a config page setting that stop (under user choice ) the resolve auto replacement behavior ...) .... 3 beta come out , no fix ....
I am pretty optimistic that they are cooking something big for the NAB ... but we need fixes now ,and the problems is that Now sooo many are complaining about soooo many things (lite issue etc..) that more important things gets forgotten ...

maybe BMD should set it up and invite Us in (or we can ask them to be invited )
so they can monitor what we are talking about without having hundreds of thread about asking ""what cheap mac is necessary to run Lite"" or ""when the tangent element will be supported""" or threads about people offending other people ""EGO fights ""...

Pro Forum?
Used to be at davsys.com/
You needed a serial number. But isn't this about "democratization"? Seriously, don't get me started.

The auto replace behavior is driving me nuts, too. I've probably lost at least 2 hours on a major network television series because of it. It's especially annoying because you can't have two sessions open at the same time. In my case, the show in question is supplied as an Avid MXF mixdown and we get multiple mixdowns over the course of a few days as large numbers of VFX shots are integrated by the editors. We have to use Color Trace to recover all previous corrections, and whenever we get an individual updated shot, the auto replace nonsense forces me to actually open the previous session, save a still with the correction (losing any dynamics in the process), re-open the new one, and reapply the correction by importing the still or opening the previous session in the Gallery. Not only that, it sometimes puts the new shots in the wrong place, and I don't always discover that until it's played out.
However you look at it, the auto replace stuff needs to be a user choice at the very least.
| | | | |
• | | | |
i agree , i am pretty sure that track down the wrong behavior is a mess , but add a setting in the config page the BLOCK the auto replace is a CONCERN that should be addressed before add ProRes on Windows ...we are all loosing hours (but mainly grades that sometimes needs to be Re done ) because of that

It shouldn't be and probably isn't either/or. Adding ProRes on Windows was probably somewhat straightforward, particularly if they're using the ffmpeg open source version (which is probably the case, given that it doesn't write 4444 at this point). Fixing the auto replace behavior is a change in the internal code.
Personally, I'd like to see the ProRes integration on Linux ASAP.....
| | | | |
• | | | |
Yes please fix the auto replace! Its very time consuming on large projects to check if nothing gets autoreplaced!
Especially on projects that dont have proper Reelnames and TC (aka canon 5d, mixdowns...)
Please let the user decide when to use it!

I've emailed BM about this as well. What I've started doing is going through and assigning reel names to all clips in FCP - that extra 30 minutes spent in FCP saves a thousand headaches down the line in Resolve.
Also, I'd love for there to be a choice in Resolve to conform by "reel" field or "clipname" field, because honestly that's more common in FCP workflows.
| | | | |
• | | | |
i have emailed again today about this as well.
point is : the auto replace features is there to help , and i assume worked great in the days of DPX film scan jobs etc... Today we have plenty of mixed camera jobs (TC , no TC , phantom etc..) and that function struggle to work properly because of the many variables unique for each job (and as we know editors mess up timelines ..)
so the smart thing to do is to make that function active or not on the config page by the user
and it's serially a priority for many of us .

How about instead of a Pro User forum, there's a new DaVinci Lite forum where everything lite can be addressed there?
