Settings for Final Cut Studio and Motu V4HD
by Alan Miles on Aug 10, 2009 at 12:19:35 pm

Can anyone help me with best/definitive settings for the V4HD/FCP/MacBook Pro (PAL).

My set up is :

MacBook Pro linked to V4HD by FW800.

2 x LaCie 2TB Raid drives linked to MacBook Pro by eSATA 2 port express card.

I'm monitoring picture on a JVC Monitor (linked to V4HD by svideo) and a 1080p HD ready plasma (linked to V4HD by HDMI)

Audio seems to be fine.

I'm working on a big project with a mix of HD and old SD footage most of which has been shot in 16:9 but some is 4:3

I'm a little confused about best Audio/Visual settings in FCP verses output/playback settings in the MOTU Video Setup.

Thanks Alan

Alan,
In the MOTU Video Setup software, HDMI Output Source should be set to HD to output true HD to your plasma and Playback Clock Source should be set to Internal unless you are clocking the V4HD to an external source during playback.

Standard def. 16:9 will maintain the proper aspect ratio when up-converting to HD using the anamorphic option. Set the upconvert option in the MOTU Video Setup software.

Use an Easy Setup in FCP to configure your sequence timeline. I recommend DVCProHD 720 or DVCProHD 1080.

Best,
Dave
