Hi dave!
Here is Andrés from mexico city.
i have the v4hd and im more than happy with it, i write a story and send to motu since ias far as i know is the first v4hd working in mexico.

i need and advise on the following. since day by day more project are being shoted with 5D and 7D from canon and im workin as location video capture with P2, RED, EXDCAM im looking for a way to ingest video from those cameras.

both 5D and 7D have hdmi output that is HD only in passive mode, not when recording, but anyway if im capturing with motu i think is gonna work.

for that i need to buy an hdmi to sdi so i could use my v4hd. the hdmi to sdi is around 450$ but now im reading a lot about HD express ($500 with express card)

so, whtas youre advise, to buy an hdi to sdi and use my v4hd or buy and hd express?

for me is amazing that hd express could work with uncompressed HD, my guess is that that capability is disable when running it on mac book pro right?

and a questoin about hd express. it need Dc always or when operating with laptop coul be powered by the express bus?

thats all.
will be waiting for youre advise.
bests!

Andres,

The HD Express provides uncompressed input to the computer. It will work on a MacBook Pro, but you would need the very latest model to have enough CPU power.

The HD Express does require it's DC power adaptor.

Best,
Dave

The V4HD has a dedicated composite output.

The HD Express and HDX-SDI can be configured to use the Y output of the component output for composite output.

Andres,

The HD Express requires 10-24V at 12W DC. If your external battery pack provides that spec, it will power the HD Express.
