Keyboard/mouse USB Hub for multiple computers?
by Phillip Roh on Jun 5, 2008 at 8:02:25 pm

In my office I have a Mac desktop, PC desktop, and PC laptop that I use frequently at any given moment. Long story, lots of single OS software, and alot of inter-office proprietary software.

It's a big mess to have 2 keyboards, 2 mouses, and as well as being ergonomically incorrect to use a laptop keyboard (i think). I'd love to clean up and use simply one keyboard/mouse, hooked into some sort of 'hub/switcher' device, which is then connected to all 3 computers through USB.

Is such a thing possible? Compatible across both Mac and PC OS's? Ideally I wouldn't need to install any software (all installations go through an IT paperwork process).

Luckily my monitors each have dual inputs, so I get by on that already :D.

You're looking at a KVM switch. These can be bought in different variations, to suit the needs of each computer - for example a DVI or VGA unit with PS/2 or USB.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817107461 - 4 D-Sub/USB/Audio in - 1 D-sub/USB/Audio out This also includes a ethernet switch, very handy ( $209)
