I'm aware that questions regarding Toxik 2009 installed on a Vista Ultimate virtual machine* on a Mac Pro** are possibly too "fringe" for a response, but I'll give it a try...

The situation is such that I have been unable to open Toxik. Instead I get an error message regarding the: “WGL_ARB_pixel_format not supported”.

I'm assuming this is because I don't yet have a Nvidia Quadro card, but instead the Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT. However, it had also been my assumption that until the graphic card upgrade, Toxik - like Maya - would run at 90%. This now seems incorrect, as it doesn't run at all.

Therefore, I wonder, will I be able to run Toxik 2009 when I have the Quadro card? Or are there other factors that prevent it from running on a virtual machine on a Mac Pro?

Thanks

Hey Rogier,

I have toxik running under windows xp 32bit on a macbook pro using bootcamp. It's pretty good. As for using a Virtual Machine, I can't imagine it's going to work very well. Toxik is very hungry for system resources and having multiple layers of OS between your video hardware and toxik doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

Hey Alan,

Thank you very much for your reply.

Have you any recommendations in the graphic card department? That is, when running AutoDesk software (for Windows) on a Mac?

Also, should I install XP instead of Vista?

Thanks again,

Rogier

Hi,

I do not have as much experience as Alan running Toxik on bootcamp but I have done it using Windows XP. I have not tried it using Vista yet.

As far as graphic cards I recommend NVIDIA Quadro cards because I have had great experiences with them and before Toxik 2009 you had to have a Quadro card to run Toxik. 2009 now is supported on other cards than just the Quadro cards.

Just one more note and this is related to running Toxik on Vista or XP but not using bootcamp I have Toxik running on my laptop with Vista and it runs great no problems at all.

I would agree with Ken, stick with Quadro cards, if you can.

On the mac it's difficult. And I can tell you that my MacBookPro is the one with the Radeon card in it. It works.

Hey Ken, Alan,

Thanks for your replies. I've now installed Toxik on Vista with Boot Camp and it seems to be working fine.
