Hello i am new to nuke but i can see that it has created a lot of buzz.
I am struggling with a project in maya where i have to make a earth animation , problem is with the glow node, even if that can be done in maya i want to know how we can make earth in NUKE, and how to make star particles and gases background, even if in a matte painting.
On my decent core2 duo pc with ati radeon, any texture beyonf 3k in maya gives memmory exception, and the camera angle i need to shoot from is really very close to earth so i downloaded textures of earth at 30KX30K which only nuke can handle . And i also need to know about sun flare, i think i asked too much for a first request . Thanks in advance ppl.

well yea! lot of question...
as Pete said you can crate sphere in nuke and texture it.
photo real?. you probably wanna do that in maya and render with mental ray even maya software.. how near is your shot.. i dont think you need a 30k a 2K texture should be ok.
for star and gases.. also you can do that in maya using paricles and sptites and paint effects have a nice space gas brush.
anyways you always can comp a space scene in nuke.

well I will probably render thatfrom maya using MR and using a facing ratio in a sam[ler info node to drive the opacity of that layer from the center to the edge...
you have glow node in nude.. anyways is faster to render the layer from maya.. maybe as a separate layer so you can comp..

you can actually load 30k textures in maya by using the optimized textures in mental ray. I'd rather render out some passes in maya and comp them in nuke,
