Cinema4D camera to Nuke
by Stephane Fournier on Jun 2, 2009 at 3:38:28 pm

Hello,

I've tried importing a camera from C4D into Nuke thru a FBX file. Everything works fine, but the camera doesn't point towards the imported FBX geometry. I've tried changing the transform orders, etc.. but to no avail..

Any thoughts ?

Thanks !

Hi fbx often gives inconsisent results. Try exporting a chan file if possible from C4D. That usually gets your camera in without any fuss.

Everything works fine with an fbx except the cam. I also tried multiple things to make it work. I talk about the issue on the fxphd forum... And for now it seems that nobody can make it work.

And no, from C4D we can't export .chan file (unless I didn't find how).

I also asked Barry Berman if he could include c4d in his MoCon... Here is his answers:

"... C4D is a closed format. Because of this, I'd have to write
a plug-in for C4D just to export. I'm not a C4D user, so this is too much commitment for me. On the other hand, if somebody else did, I'd be happy to ship it with MoCon I made MoCon open source so people can amend at will.

So, for now, it's not working. :( I know that Tahl Niran is also try to make it work. Let's hope someone will find a way. :)

May the force be with you

Sounds like my conclusion echoes yours... Argh !

Well, now's a good time to move to Maya or Houdini I guess.

Kind of miss the good ol' days of After Effects & C4D. Both weren't always professional grade, but easy to use and worked with each other !

Thanks.

Well there are more problems whit C4D integration to Nuke. Like there is no way how to export normals maps.
What might work, and I will test it in a couple of weeks, is to convert C4D project to Maya and from Maya to Nuke.

The other way is to switch from C4D to Maya or Houdini :)

Already started to learn Maya... to use it with Nuke.
