in need of Maxine help
by Jay Curtis on Apr 14, 2009 at 10:55:43 pm

Looking for someone in the great COW who might be able to help out with some tips on a Maxine. I do some contract work for a friend who's just bought a small analog production truck. (I know, I know, analog... It is what it is, though).

The truck came with a Maxine, which the seller claimed worked fine. So far, it fires up, but he's had very little luck else with it. Manuals, of course didn't come as part of the package.

I've worked on several versions of the Duet, but have no experience with anything Chyron pre-Windows.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

What type of help do you need? I learned on the Infinit! family, which Maxine is a part of. You will probably hate going from Duet to Maxine in some aspects, if you are building things. You will need to work with Alpha channels, be able to import into the machine (we used DOS and FTP), some machines had Video Capture. You have to create an RGB font and then store your images as characters to be able to plot them on a "canvas". So you need to document where things are.

One thing to be very careful of is setting up your 16 fonts before recording a bunch of pages. The machines only hold 16 fonts at a time. There are ways to use more fonts but they will slow down the machine a lot and will cause a lot of frustration.

If you have more specific questions let me know and I'll try my best to answer them.

Thanks Shawn -- I'll get back to you as soon as I can get some more time on the machine.

Jay, if we can establish a private communication, I will provide you with the II and operations manuals for the Maxine in PDF format. I do not wish to post my address or a direct download link in a public forum though.
