masking in lyric
by Ryan Kehn on Mar 22, 2009 at 1:16:26 am

Hey All,

So i have a hopefully simple question. It's been a while since i've done anything in lyric and I can't for the life of me remember how to create a mask. Basically i'm wanting some text and an object to "slide out" from underneath a logo (in a lower third). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much!

-Ryan

I think there's a tutorial on this on the Chyron site.... I think it's a little archaic in the way it does it though - it's more a luminance key alpha than a straight alpha which sometimes produces a little artifacting. Plus there's a bunch of hoops that you have to jump through. I can't believe that chyron simply can't use a layer as a simple alpha key.

Hi Ryan,

1. Create an image in photoshop that is transparent - ie the alpha channel is completely black.

2. Import the image into Lyric and right click on it>select mask object, then right click again>mask to layer> select layer 1.
(you have now created your mask.)

3.Go to your text you want to mask, right click>mask to layer 1

4.Go to the object you want to mask, and do the same again.

5. Animate the text, object and mask as you wish.

Caveats
This is a hard edged mask.
You must mask the actual objects, groups won't mask

hope this helps.
Melissa
