Proxy clips - access by Windows client
by Christopher Tay (chrispy) on Jul 27, 2008 at 6:38:37 am

Hi,

May I know if low res proxy clips generated by FCS can be accessed by a Windows based client, for browsing purposes ?

Are the low res proxy clips generated by FCS based on what is set in Compressor ?

Hi chrispy

Yes, windows clients can view the proxies. And yes, the proxies are created according to compressor settings.

Windows clients will even view fullres original media... if it has the appropriate QT codec installed. The default proxy codec is H.264, and QT for windows does display H.264 well. But as we all know, there are some QT codecs with difficulty in windows - e.g. XDCAM IMX and DVCPRO50... Not to mention ProResHQ...

When FCServer 1.0 installs, it forces the windows client system to have QT7.4.5 installed, and FCServer 1.1 will force all client systems to have QT 7.5 installed. The FCServer client on a windows machine will launch the proxies in a seperate QT window.

However, I must warn you that compressor/qmaster is flaky - see my other threads in this forum.

Good to see some of the ex-Cinewave forum users still around...

Regards
Francois
