I tried out FCServer for a few weeks on a G5 Quad. Then we bought a Mac Pro 8core to run it on, with a 1TB drive for the proxy device.
I cloned the boot drive to the new machine because I did not want to start from scratch on FCServer -we set up quite a few custom workflows etc. Everything else on the new mac pro works perfectly after the boot clone - FCP and Compressor just wanted their serial numbers again. After re-typing they both worked fine. I have also repaired the boot drive's permissions.
Howevever, final cut server has a problem. Every time I boot, and go to the FCServer control panel, it says final cut server's permissions needs to be re-set. I've fixed this three times now, but after reboot it is back. I also had to re-type the FCServer serial number. But every time I try to start FCServer it says
"there was an error communicating with the server. Database is not running. Please start up the database server."
Well, I wish I could. How do I start up the database? and get rid of the permission problem at reboot?

I believe your problem is due to switching from a PPC machine to an Intel machine. These machine architectures have a different "endianess". I doubt that Postgres has it's internal files written in an endian independent manner.
Your best best is to do a backup of the database (using the FCSVR system preferences pane) on the G5, then install FCVSR fresh on an Intel machine and then restore the database from the backup.
This should work as the backup is stored in a machine independent manner.
