FCS Convert to FLV
by Bryce Richardson on Sep 22, 2009 at 5:13:31 pm

Hi,

I was wondering if someone would be able to give me, or point me in the direction to find out, a step by step instruction on how to:

1. Add my quicktime reference movie to FCS
2. Then have it convert to FLV.
3. And finally send emails out to whom needs to view them.

Preferably all automated.

I am new to FCS and right now it looks completely foreign. Im sure I can catch onto this program fast, but I just need a little jump start.

Thank you

Hi bryce - the only way I have made flv from fcs is via telestream episode - there is a plugin that goes into compressor then you set up fcs to transcode - for the emailing you will need to set up triggers - all of this is above averade knowledge in fcs - I have been playing and learn fcs since release and I am still learning

MINTedit

Editing - VFX -Digital Signage - Digital Pipeline Solutions

MACproo - All the bits and bobs

Yea i googled that earlier. I still haven't really had any time with the program but I hope I can figure it out. The reason we got it is mainly to do what I posted above. Thanks for the helpful tips

The Telestream Episode plugin for Compressor will let you encode FLVs, but remember FLVs really need to be embedded in a web page via a SWF to be accessible for non-technical users (FLV is not a MIME type that browsers play as a standalone file). Building something like that on your own will be pretty complex, so I'd look at MediaSilo. MediaSilo is a hosted content collaboration and screening solution that presents flash video in the browser. Their top-tier plan offers direct FCSvr round-trip integration, but their lesser plans offer FTP upload which you could use as a device in FCSvr for one-way feeding of your media to that platform. Check them out.

Best,

Andy

We are currently working on running an external script (or two or three) to parse the Quicktime to FFMPEG, convert it to flv and copy it to an flv folder. The advantage of this is that FFMPEG is free and **fast**. The disadvantage is that it takes a bit of (human) processing power to create it.

So far we have this command line for FFMPEG:
ffmpeg -i [filename].mov -f flv -ar 44100 -b 1100k [filename].flv

That takes an mov file and encodes it into flv with an audio rate of 44.1 kHz and a bitrate of 1100 kbps.

What we need to do now is write the script that will look in a folder and parse the name of the mov to the ffmpeg script. We plan to tackle that next week. I'll keep you posted.

Even just using the command line for FFMPEG locally on an mov is a good way to transcode to flv

It is certainly true that an flv on it's own can't be played but there are many readymade (or custom) players that can embed the flv into an swf. My favorite is JW Player - http://www.longtailvideo.com/
