Pulling Spotlight Comments into Final Cut Server 1.5
by Gardiner Welch on Sep 15, 2009 at 7:45:35 pm

I am new to FCS so forgive me if this is a simple question, but I have a large SFX library that I was thinking of adding to FCS.

The problem is that, upon importing a couple of test audio files, FCS doesn't seem to recognize/read the Spotlight Comments attached to them. Do I need to add a special metadata category for that or is manually adding that data the only option?

Adding those Spotlight comments manually would be too time consuming as there are well over 1,500 files and it would not be worth the effort.

Thanks for any help on this.

Gardiner

You could write a script that could sniff out the Spotlight metadata and inject it into custom Final Cut Server custom fields.

Hope this helps

Makes sense, but I am not that savvy in terms of writing my own scripts. I was hoping that this was a metadata component already built into FCS that I could turn on somewhere.

Are there any websites that have ready made scripts of this kind to purchase or does that fall under the category of "hire a developer"?

Again I am an editor looking to add FCS without a lot of additional customization outside of what they have already included in the box. Maybe that is naive, but hoping there is a built in solution vs. a roll your own kind of thing.

Thanks,
Gardiner

There isn't a site that just has FCSvr scripts for download.

This is more of a "hire a developer" scenario because Spotlight metadata can be created in very unique ways on a case by case basis.

I have developed a few scripts that do this exact things already. Taking spotlight metadata from Audio mp3's and tiffs etc.

Let me know if you're interested in having them developed for you.

Thanks.

Hey Nicholas,

My needs are minimal, but this may still be something that I could use your help on. What kind of cost are we talking about to integrate one of your spotlight metadata reading scripts? If you don't want to quote that publicly then shoot me an email: gardiner at gabbamedia dot com.

Thanks,

Gardiner
