Lightsaber
by Carlos Sanchez on Dec 13, 2008 at 6:03:18 pm

I am using Andrew Kramer's LightSaber preset, I'm still a little new at this, but I was wondering what to do if the lightsaber passes behind an object. The tutorial doesn't cover that aspect, and the preset has been working great so far, its just I'm trying to figure out what to do when the lightsaber swings to the otherside of the body or an oject is closer to the camera and the character passes behind it. I'm using After Effects CS4. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

All you have to do is duplicate your original footage layer, put it in front of your lightsaber, then draw a mask around what the lightsaber is passing behind. Then you may need to animate the mask path if the object is moving.
