I was wondering which programs are compatible with mac, I know theres that list on videocopilot, but all those are really expensive. I was wondering which mac programs (leopard) are compatible, hopefully free, although I doubt it.
I tried After effects but the frame rate kept freaking about, so I just didnt do that.
any help?

The only "GOOD/FREE" program I've EVER seen that's even worth playing with on any level is Blender3d (which is available on all platforms).
Other than that, you'll most likely have to pay for video software. I'm no mac guru though, there might be some sites out there offering such things, try google..
As for AE - the only framerate issues I've had is when I've changed the rate of the footage and interpreted as something else, which in that case was entirely my own fault because I didn't know wtf I was doing at the time...
Give AE another try.. maybe hit up some tutorials Mr. Kramer on VCP does have a wonderful set of tutorials on there, and this site also has several very informative ones as well.. might just need to sit down with it and show it who's boss ;)

AE is not an editing program, it doesn't allow you to playback in real-time until it has rendered the frames that you want to playback. Even if it's just video, AE needs to render it first. Use RAM Preview to render and cache frames in RAM (limited by the amount of RAM you have) and then play them back in real time. The keyboard shortcut to RAM Preview is the 0 on the numpad.

[Darby Edelen]"AE is not an editing program, it doesn't allow you to playback in real-time until it has rendered the frames that you want to playback."
[momo ushido]"err... I dont really know what that means"
What this means is this: you're probably used to hitting the space bar to get something to play. Well, you can't do that in AE, because AE doesn't work like a media player, and it doesn't work like an editing application. So you have to use it differently.
[Darby Edelen]"Even if it's just video, AE needs to render it first. Use RAM Preview to render and cache frames in RAM (limited by the amount of RAM you have) and then play them back in real time. The keyboard shortcut to RAM Preview is the 0 on the numpad."
[momo ushido]"...can you explain slower or something please."
Because AE is designed to do compositing and video effects, the software engineers knew darned well that it would never be able to play back in real time. So they came up with RAM Preview, a way to let you see your work.
Assuming you have a legal, non-cracked version of AE -- and judging by your obsession with free software, that's a BIG assumption -- you ought to look at AE Help, which answers a BUNCH of questions. I'd start by looking up the phrase, "RAM Preview".
You can't learn all the ins and outs of an application like AE just from a few tutorials. Yeah, they're helpful, but as repulsive as it may sound to you, sometimes you actually have to do SOME STINKIN' READING!
Is that slow enough for you?
