I have AE 7 but need this CS3 effect for a proj. Are there any workarounds? I want to composite a slightly blurred image with an unblurred one so it "comes into focus" re: Andrew's toot on SlideShows.

Hmmm.... you know, you MIGHT be able to buy it for AE7. CC Composite is made by Conoa -- if you google it, you'll find it. Beware: it may be bundled with a bunch of other effects, making for a pricey acquisition.

Googled CC Composite and you don't want to go there but did find Conoa and I'm no better off. (Visit their site!) So, I have my own workaround.
At the tender age of 63, I've been asked to produce a weekly TV broadcast and will make sure CS3 Premium is part of the package. That starts 1-09 so I have some extra time to learn more and prep, and can do w/o the effect til then.

I thought of that since my last post and am just now experimenting. Your confirmation on that track makes me feel better. (Somehow?!) Just kidding. (;-)

if you have the pro version ae7 you have the cc effects on the install disk in extras/cycore. just run the installer.
if you don't have the pro version, it should be a part of the cycore hd fx package from cycorefx.com which is available for purchase and comes with other about 10 other new effects and, i believe, all of them are capable 32 bit per channel processing.
you could also compare what the upgrade cost to cs3 is. there is only one cs3 version, the pro version, but it is the same price to upgrade from a standard ae version as a pro version, so it is quite a deal. you get all the pro 'bundled' effects and there are a few new effects in cs3, and the big bonus, multiprocess rendering.

Kevin
Thanks for your reply.
I have the student ver of AE7 so until I check, I'm not sure what my upgrade options are and for the moment, my personal budget constraints allow me little.
In the meantime, I have played with blur and opacity options and found a suitable compromise for the test proj.

[Butch Golden]"I have the student ver of AE7....."
Aha! That explains a lot. Educational versions lack many of the extras of the full-price versions, and those CC filters you seek might just be among them.

Yup, you sure do, pardner. When you get educational versions of software, they're not intended for any kind of for-profit use.
Not to mention anything about the smarts of a boss who'd expect staffers to buy their own tools.... if you don't mind my saying so.

Dave
My "boss" won't be that til January. I'm still just a student and am only doing test projects in AE to equip myself for the coming position.
If he want's what AE can do, then he'll need to provide it or find someone else to do the job. This is the only position I can afford to take in the matter.
We'll see how it goes. Til then, I'll just keep enjoying and learning about this incredible craft we ply.
