Has anyone had success running Adobe Audition?

I am curious if anyone has had any real success running Adobe Audition on a Mac? If you have, what are you running it on and what are your settings? I have had no luck whatsoever and would really like to have access to Audition on my Mac, when needed.

I'm with you 100% on that wish, Ron. I'm not happy with the audio I'm getting from Soundtrack. I've wasted hours trying to reproduce what I can do in seconds in Audition. Before the week is out, I'm hoping to install VMware Fusion to see what I can do with that. What have you tried that has been unsuccessful?

I have tried both Bootcamp and Parallels and neither allows me to boot Audition. It starts to load and crashes. I haven't gotten very far at all. (He said shamefaced, his cheeks turning bright red with the embarrassment. Never in his life had he felt so powerless as when he tried to become a true dual-boot Jedi. "Yoda would cringe to see me like this," he thought to himself, knowing that were Yoda present he'd likely say something akin to "All but abandoned this one, The Force has.")

Yes, I can load Windows but Audition (and even Sony Cinescore or ACID) won't load.
It seems that I have some root-level issue that seems to foul up any use of Windows for anything other than basic document-type programs like Office, Expressions Studio, etc. These types of programs work but multimedia/audio/video programs don't.

Wow, Ron, that sounds awful. I've been using Windows all-out on my Mac Pro for about a year and a half now. The only real limitation I've come across is Windows "seeing" only two out of the four gigs of RAM I have installed. I assume you installed Windows XP with service pack 2 when you set up Bootcamp?

[Ron Lindeboom]"Yes, I have installed the OS and updated to all the appropriate service packs, etc."
This is the problem, Ron. You need to install the version of XP that has service pack 2 included. You can't update to SP 2 after the install of XP. I actually had to take my older version of XP and slipstream it with SP 2 to create a new install disc. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, but you're going to have to start over!

[Jason Jenkins]"You can't update to SP 2 after the install of XP."
Unless it's different for Windows on a Mac, this is absolutely not true.
I reinstalled Windows this weekend on our home machine, and the install disk (and computer) were so old I didn't even have SP1. It was just a straight XP install. I installed XP and sat there for about 2 hours while it ran updates--all the way through SP2.
This was with an old Dell PC, so maybe it's different with the Mac, but I'm betting you can definitely install XP without SP2 and update to it.
Michael.
PS. If you don't know, Windows only seeing 2GB of 4GB of RAM is normal. It's a limitation of the OS, I believe.

Thanks for the clarification. I'm not very Mac literate, but I know Windows really well. I wasn't sure what kind of limitations there were running Windows on a Mac.
Also, the 2GB RAM is the default limit of the Windows 32-bit OS, even on a PC. However, on a PC you can install up to 4 and use a /3GB Switch to "unlock" the rest of the RAM, but after a little googling it looks like you can't do this on the Mac. If you could run Windows 64-bit on the Mac you could use all the ram in the system, but 64-bit won't run on Mac, will it?
Again, thanks for the clarification. I've already learned something new today, and it's only 8:30am!

I would love to hear your experiences when you do install it. I love audition, but no audio program is working well on my MacBook Pro;s window partitoin. Not Sony Vegas or Soundforge, not Audition, not even quicktime audio recording. It either records with skips or plays back with skips.
I have followed the various software's instructions for solving performance issues (Virtual memory, cache...etc.) but no luck.
Tried recording both directly to the main drive and to an external 7200 RPM USB drive.
Perhaps I should have tried firewire, and if I have time to test today I will...
But all in all, no luck getting things to play nice.
One issue may be that I have 4 GB or RAM in there. I know windows can only see 2.98, so I wonder if that would cause an issue...

3 GB is all you'll see on a 32-bit win OS, Boot Camp or native. The explanation (and it seems to actually be true) is that some of the RAM is reserved for the BIOS and other hardware, often the video card. The amount of RAM left over can be anywhere from 2.5 to 3.5 GB, depending on the configuration.
The 64-bit versions will address much more RAM...although to be honest, I forget how much. Definitely more than 4 GB....
Anyway, you can't upgrade directly from a 32 to a 64-bit version of the OS without reformatting and restoring your disk....
I am running all the Sony Studio software, as well as all the Adobe CS2 apps on my separate bootcamp drive on the Octocore and can run all of them with no problems. I am using an external 1TB FW 800 for all media though. I am on Vista and not XP SP2.
Dual 2.5 G5, IO, Kona LH, IO, Medea Raid, UL4D, NVidia 6800, 4Gig RAM
Octocore 8 GB Ram, Radeon card, MBP, MXO
Windows XP Adobe Studio CS3, Vegas 8.0, Lightwave 9.2, Sound Forge 9, Acid Pro 6, Continuum 5, Boris Red 4, Combustion 2008, Sapphire Effects

Hi Jason,
I too need to slipstream SP2 into my WinXP SP1 CD. Would you mind passing on the link to the instructions you followed to do so? Much appreciated,
Terry

Hey folks - did some reading today, and it looks like if you are experiencing sound issues on Vista in Bootcamp, it may be due to a conflict with the wireless card and audio. People have reported that disabling the wireless card (in the device manager) solves the issue.
I'm Running XP, but if anyone is running Vista, can you confirm? There is no solution for XP, so frankly, I'd be willing to upgrade to vista, just so I could have a solution that I know works, even if it's not ideal.

How exactly are you running Audition on a mac? Can you run various plug-ins? I have a 2.4ghz core2 duo imac w/leopard. I'll probably have to purchase windows xp sp2 and dual boot w/partition, but I have no idea how to do this. I'd way appreciate the advice as I'm nowhere near as familiar or fast with logic as I am with Audition 2.0 and 1.5, and Garageband is very limited. Thanks, Michael

From what I read, the issue with the audio on the new Penryn MBP's (Released 2/26/08) is not related to the network card - even if so, that solution is (again from what I read) for Vista, not XP Pro.
A way to test this, supposedly, was to disable your wireless network card. It didn't work for me.
