Hitchy video playback from Premiere Pro in Windows

I just purchased a 24" iMac, with 3.06GHz processor, 2Gig Ram, and 512MB nVidia graphics card. I used Boot Camp to set up XP Pro (service pack 2 included on disc) so I could use my Adobe products.
The particular program I'm having problems with right now is Premiere Pro 2. The picons on the timeline take forever to build, and video will play back, then hang, then play back, then hang, etc. Even if I play the DV clips from Windows Explorer I get the same thing.
After I first set everthing up, I plugged in my external hard drive, opened Premiere Pro, and everything seemed to load up fine with the project, and play back without any problems. It was after I installed VMWare Fusion and chose the Boot Camp partition to use as the virtual machine that everything seemed to go to hell.
I removed Fusion from the Apple OS, and removed the VMWare tools from the XP partition, and noticed a significant improvement in video playback, although not perfect. The process of loading Fusion seems to have screwed up something fundamental to the playback of DV files in XP.
Should re-installing Windows XP clear up my playback issues? I'm hoping that the playback problems I'm having are not normal for an XP Boot Camp install on a Mac. Has anyone else experienced this issue?
Thanks for your help and feedback,
Jeff
