I dunno- that seems like an ungodly amount of extra work just to do something that either you need constantly or never depending on the scale of the post house. Wouldn't getting a system setup with a Mac and a Red Rocket card be a more solid investment for someone doing regular RED post work? Certainly more time to get things done.

You could make the argument, but I'm a pragmatist. I don't feel the need to buy old hardware (including the possibility of the new Mac Pro... which will probably have hardware that is 6 months old when or if an update is released) at a price premium for one codec... bad business choice when the amount of time it takes is nearly identical with my process. Probably seems like a blunt comment but it's not meant to be.

I think the scariest part is the Python script, which in basic terms just says "hey, this uncompressed file is done, feed it to FFMPEG". Beyond that, some of the other steps like setting up Process Lasso are one time things.

Are you turned off by the technical nature of it? Or could I explain it in a more clear manner? There are a number of RED users on Windows, this just fills a blind spot.

Just sounds like a massive PITA to me. I'm a big fan of simplicity. Maybe that's why I'm on a Mac to begin with...

Different strokes... I guess it stems from my grandfather working at IBM: I've never really liked Apple as a computer platform and I like to tinker and problem solve.
