Overlapping layers' edges show up in matte
by James Docherty on Jul 9, 2008 at 3:03:59 am

Hi,
I have a really simple question about creating mattes in Monet (I'm sure its the same in the other apps too). I have a roto job that has a few different overlapping layers. Each of the layers has a variety of edge widths to help with the roto. When I view the matte in the app it looks great - a solid white shape with a feathered edge. However, when I output the matte via either export or save file, I get a border around all the layers including where they overlap. Does anyone know how to combine all the layers so that these 'internal' edges don't show up in the final matte export?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
James

Hi James,
I believe that this has been marked as a bug and is being fixed for a point release. Will confirm and let you know.

FOr a workaround, can you output each matte seperately and combine in the compositor of your choice?

Or if you would like a temp license of mocha or motor, the combining of mattes works fine in those products.

Please email me off the list at: rosss@imagineersystems.com

Best,
Ross

Hi Ross,

Thanks for your reply. In case anyone finds this via Google; I had to solve the problem, so I output the mattes and then simply painted over the erroneous lines in Photoshop. Its certainly not ideal and a bit of a faff but since I couldn't figure it out in Monet (no real surprise now I know its a bug) it was the best I could do!

Cheers,
James
