CD/DVD Duplicator Issues

Hello all,
I have an Acard 4X 1 to 7 duplicator that is about 3 years old. I bought new 20X drives for it and it doesn't like them. 2 of them perform fine but the other 3 are a no go. I switched out drives and the problem doesn't move around so it's not any one drive. I've double checked all of the MA, SL jumpers and all is correct. According to the drives that came out of the case and Acards website. All drives are MA except for the DVD-ROM which is on the same channel as the internal HDD...it's jumper is set to SL.
My guess is the controller needs to be upgraded too. There are 20X rated controllers out now. No problem to do that, I just wanted to see if anyone had any experience with this situation before I drop another $90.
