Just wondering who has bought VP12. I was testing the beta and Sony emailed that testing would end in October... but here we are with it released already. Seems like the testers and market people at Sony don't talk to each other.

Windows 7 Pro64, 16GB RAM, SSD boot drive, GTX 570 Graphics, Vegas Pro 11 and VP10 just in case

I bought the upgrade, since I had some small projects created with the beta version that I still wanted to work on.

HI I bought it and have been using it flat out since the minute I got it. FULL of bugs, crashes 50 - 60 times a day. Has a good layout and for some reason renders faster, but useless until things are ironed out. I really think Sony should have tested the beta for longer and worked a bit harder getting this one right. Also what's wrong with able to save as a previous version so not everything is wasted?

I'm using it every day and it seems very stable. I did find one bug with rendering a DVD menu that had motion that I animated with Pan/Crop and the motion was not smooth when I rendered to MP4 so I had to go back to Vegas Pro 11.0 to do the render but other than that it seems to work pretty well. I wouldn't delete Vegas Pro 11.0 just yet though. There are bound to be some "gotcha's" like the one I found but overall I really like Vegas Pro 12.0.

Got it here... working great so far. Though I'm only doing an audio project this week. And while I bought it last week, I'm still waiting for Sony to send my registration code. What's up with that? Now they have bugs in the ordering process!

The vast majority of us get our key in an email minutes after buying the download version of Vegas 12. You didn't, so there is a bug on Sony's end?

Call CUSTOMER SERVICE with your order number and hey will fix it for you. Do not try tech support - license issues isn't their problem.

[Stephen Mann] "The vast majority of us get our key in an email minutes after buying the download version of Vegas 12. You didn't, so there is a bug on Sony's end?"

Change a few words, and maybe that sounds more plausable: "The vast majority of us aren't getting crashes on that particular plug-in. You are, so there's a bug on Sony's end?"

[Stephen Mann] "Call CUSTOMER SERVICE with your order number and hey will fix it for you. Do not try tech support - license issues isn't their problem."

Perhaps that would have worked. However, the support section on the web site has a page specifically for dealing with this sort of problem. I cut and pasted my order numbers, and the missing email arrived fairly shortly thereafter.

So yeah, something odd at Sony's end, but easily resolved.

Still running the trial and I can make V12 crash in a matter of seconds, very unstable.

So I decided to turn GPU OFF and to my surprise, V12 is much more stable, runs slower on previews, but it doesn't crash. NBTP 2 also worked well so far and V12 has not crashed even when I had 4 instances of V12 running side by side with some fx intensive sessions. And no glitches in the preview.

I prefer stability over GPU acceleration and if this proves to be right, either my graphic card is not suited for V12 or V12 just isn't ready for stable GPU.

It still needs further testing GPU OFF but I just couldn't go this far with GPU ON on V12 and not having it crash. And this time, GPU seems to be the cause while with V11, I could never move on because the color curves fx settings would not show up, GPU ON or OFF. This has been fixed in V11 701 and in V12, so this issue might not have been related to GPU while I was thinking maybe my computer might of been the problem.
I did purchase V11 but never used it but if V12 proves to be stable GPU OFF, I will most likely purchase it.

I have an ASUS NVIDIA GTS 450 with driver: 306.23-desktop-win8-win7-winvista-64bit-english-whql.exe on an i7 2600, 16 gb ram.

We started a thread for this for Vegas Pro 11.0 and there are some strong contenders for what to buy:

Survey of GPU's for Vegas Pro 11.0

To answer your question directly, I have the NVIDIA Quadro 4000 and it works flawlessly.

Thanks John, but I am specifically looking for graphic cards that work well under V12 just like your Quadro 4000.

My GTS450 is ok in V11 but in V12 it just makes Vegas crash within seconds to several minutes, so there are changes under the hood in V12.

Besides the crash that randomly occurs when I right-click an event to the trimmer, the multi-cam randomly doesn't allow the mouse to change cameras, I need to use the number keyboard.

My Nvidia GTX 570 with 306.23 drivers seems to perform well most of the time. I have had a couple occasions where the Video preview window just displays solid red. If I terminate and go back in, it is fine. I suspect it is more with the Nvidia drivers, but still very usable and I am able to do my hobby based projects well, but I am not stressing it too much. I like the BCC 8 filter handles in the preview window, but sometimes the handles are not exactly in the corners (beat reactor is an example). I saw this in SVP 11 too. But overall the OFX plugins seem to be more stable in SVP 12.

The RED preview windows is Vegas' way of telling you that it has run out of resources and cannot display your video. That's why exiting and entering clears it up (because it frees up memory). This has nothing to do with your display drivers. We all get this from time to time on large projects.

Thanks. I was probably working with Media Manager and had it open for a while. I saw a post by Stephen Mann about checking GDI objects in task manager and was surprised to see my Vegas120.exe having over 4,700 GDI objects and a few thousand handles open too. Now that I try to keep an eye on it, the GDI objects are usually under 1,000. It might have been when I was looking at the Boris BCC 8.1 3D Lens Flare after watching that Webinar on the Hulk Animation the other day. There are a lot of controls in those OFX dialogs and that may have caused it to be high. Have you ever needed to bump up the limit of 10,000 GDI objects per process limit that Windows 7 has in the registry?

Just hit the 10,000 GDI limit with SVP 12 and Windows 7. Just changed the limit to 20,000 to see if that helps. I was working on a slide show with 250 source jpgs in the Project Media tab. I had already removed a bunch of them from the project and was selecting all of the remaining ones to see if I could get a count of them.

Link that explains how to change the default. It used to be 16K in Windows 2000.

So, did You increase limit? Did it help in any way - stability/speed of rendering?

I did increase it to 20,000. I am working on a project and rather than letting it go above 10,000 (watching it in the processes tab of Task Manager) I saved the project and restarted Vegas to get that value back down. For example, before I started a render, I restarted. May not have been necessary, but I had a deadline and figured it was quicker to restart Vegas than to waste time if the render failed half way through.

In 3D i have to turn off GPU to get RT playback
With GPU off i get RT if no Effect, transition or title has been added. Click on a title in timeline in 3D mode and Crash every time. I get so many crashes. Its more stable in 2D. I have informed Sony but no reply to date

Interesting, I was having Vegas12 crashing at 50% of my project (when viewing and/or rendering), and by disabling the GPU Acceleration I was able to render in HiDef (720).

I'm running Windows8 64, 8Gb RAM, with a (brand-new) Nvidia Geforce GT 520, (1Gb memory).

I bought it within 1 hour of the email going out, and I absolutely do NOT regret my decision, I love it! It's only crashed I think twice since I got it.

I just installed a gpu acceleration friendly card (GT430, please don't laugh at my poverty) and it is much better preview now. I'll report back if it starts crashing more with GPU acceleration or not.

Just like Versions 4,5,6,7,8,9,10 and 11, Vegas 12 is working well here.

I do have a minor issue with Version 11 and it is also in 12, but I am not convinced that the problem isn't my PC. If I open a generated text, edit it and close the dialog box, then click on the Generated Media button on the event again, it will crash. If I do anything else between the two, it doesn't crash. Edit, close, ctrl-S, edit works fine.

So far, only editing audio... I did a four track recording of a music jam night with a "musician's collective" I play with in Princeton. There were 40 songs involved. Two crashes, and a couple odd behaviors.

The odd behavior is with Forge 10. For lower-level tracks, I do an external copy-edit in SoundForge, run an RMS normalization, then back to Vegas. I found that, immediately upon returning to Vegas, Vegas is confused about the sound output device (just using the system mapper in this case) and won't play. Click out of Vegas, back in once or twice, and it's back. Kind of the opposite effect too... once or twice, it refused to link to Forge... de-focus/focus Vegas, then it works.

I guess a couple of crashes in three nights of editing is up to Vegas 11 performance, and generally, industry standards. But I can recall when Vegas didn't crash that often in as many months of regular use.

Steve, I have the same problem with Vegas 12. I thought it might be a newblue issue since I was using that third party software plug in. Hope they can fix this! But it does seem to be working with the accelerated GPU. In 11, I experienced all sorts of problems and eventually disabled the GPU acceleration. With the latest build of 11, it appears to work, but in the preview window I get weird changes in the pictures. They appear overexposed and then go back to normal. The funny thing is that when I use a separate monitor to view, that monitor shows a normal picture, but the program preview window continues to do its thing. With 12 I have not experienced this problem!

I have been using it and it is pretty stable.. a few crashes when creating files but... I have already paid it off with work so it's worth it... I also upgraded to NEWBLUE Titler Pro 2 and it is pretty stable too. I like the idea of creating custom bevels...

I kept going to the NewBlue web site but they don't list a version 2. Is it a special early release for Sony customers. I was going to upgrade, but held back because I could not think of a good reason why NewBlue would not announce it on their site. I'm glad to hear it is working better for you.

NewBlue Titler Pro 2 is only offered as a upgrade to the free titler 1 that comes with Vegas Pro 12. The upgrade is $99 dollars to Vegas Pro 12 owners only. It gives you bevels, lighting and you can now put video files instead of a texture into the font. They also toss in Light Blends with the upgrade.

Confirming. I've bought V12 and it crash all the time when using GPU, when tuning CUDA support OFF everything works FINE. I can say, that on the same NVIDIA drivers 306.23 [on Windows 7x64 with all updates] under CS6 [Premier / AfterEffects] GPU/CUDA rendering works FINE so I'm sure that the problem is in some code-lines from SONY not from NVIDIA. SONY PLEASE make some UPDATE on that. I,ve got i7 XEON 4,2 GHz on CORE [x4] multitasking OFF - and any way I can feel the difference with and without CUDA when rendering ;/ Under Vegas 11 on the same drivers everything worked fine. GOD, HAVE MERCY FOR VIDEO EDITORS :)

Mateusz, with NVIDIA drivers 306.23, I was getting so many crashes making V12 unusable. I reverted to driver 296.10 and V12 is much more stable, only occasionnal crashes with GPU ON, and with GPU OFF, it is very stable.

I figure they still have problems with GPU.
If I open 2 instances of V12 side by side, it will crash with GPU ON, but with GPU OFF, I can open 4 instances of V12 and it is rock solid.

Also had some V10 projects with many tracks and fx intensive along with some compositing and V12 couldn't play them and would crash with GPU ON, but it did work fine and render fine with GPU OFF.

On my part, I can live with no GPU acceleration but just can't live without Vegas. Overall, this is a much better start for a first release of V12 compared to V11.

True. V11 at the beginning was a mess :] Today NVIDIA UPDATER informed me about new drivers 306.97. As far as I can tell, they works. 4 instances of Vegas, with GPU accelerated plugins on and stable. Will put some more info after few days.

Nice improvements with driver 306.97 along with GPU ON, thanks for pointing it out.

I can open two instances of V12, but if the V12 sessions are to fx intensive, the second instance of V12 will crash. Still, this is a great step forward.
