Vegas Pro 10.0d added support for users with AMD ATI graphics chipsets that support OpenCL to use the Sony AVC encoder for faster project rendering. Make sure your have 10.0d. Also make sure that you are using the AMD Radeon Catalyst driver 11.2 or later.

Vegas 10 wasnt capable of using the full capabilities
of GPU processing/Rendering etc.
I would at the same time encourage you if you can to grab
a copy of Vegas 12 if you have a 64bit system.

Dont look at Vegas 11. When you are ready, get Vegas 12,
it will do ok on your current system.

Yea, as Steve said, Vegas Pro 12.0 is out now and I would upgrade during the "early adopter" period because the upgrade price goes up after the first month or two so it's the cheapest right now.

I only use Western Digital drives. Hitachi use to be a good company after they bought the hard drive business from IBM but I don't know about them anymore.
