I'm really interested in what you have to say about this, Steve. Are you going to install it? Keep us posted here on your experience. I want to know if it crashes within moments please.

Jeff

Oh yes, im definitely gonna post my experiences with this new version.
Im gonna purchase my copy soon, but im not gonna install it
as yet, as im in the middle of a few important projects.

But before i start officially using it, tons of users will be
commenting on its Pros and Cons. Curious to hear what others have
to say.

But i can tell you, i have a good feeling about Vegas 12.

Wait until you receive your upgrade invitation, assuming you are already a Vegas user.

The price is much cheaper. :-)

Cheers for now,

I downloaded the trial and my first impression is the most immediate impression you can get. The icon is boring :). I got used to the 11 icon over time but Vegas 10 had the best icon.

OK, I just downloaded it. I did have a hang when I tried to use it after increasing the RAM Preview. So I set it to zero and it seems stable. I guess that issue isn't solved. And I can live without RAM preview, again.

However, performance is vastly improved. I'm using the NVIDIA GTX570, and with VP11 it would be sluggish with playback of more than 2 cameras in multicam. Now with VP12 I have 4 cameras and it plays and edits smoothly! Yay for better GPU acceleration. Other features seem cool, but that was the main one for me. I almost switched to Premiere Pro because of the sluggish multicam performance.

And yes, there is a discount on the upgrade but I didn't get the promo email. So I logged into my account and it listed it as $139.95, but reverted to $189.95. So I called Sony and they took my order over the phone for the $139.95.

Bump up the ram preview a few times again Jim and see
if it still hangs. Im not getting that here.

I just set it to 1024 and although it didn't hang, it kills my multicam performance. I have 4 cams and with this set, it's very jumpy, even when playing back after doing a RAM prerender. Then I switch it back to zero and its smooth again. I can live without RAM preview, especially since my timeline plays smoothly with almost any plugin I use anyway. So I guess with a fast system with a good GPU there is no longer a need for this feature, at least for me. Any complicated filtering and/or composting I would make an intermediary render using Sony MXF anyway.

Well, I will trial this one and see if they fixed the bugs that almost immediately crashed my simple edits in the beta. This was editing footage that I had edited in 11 with no problems. Single timeline interview, with simple cuts. There was no intermediate beta so this is it. If the trial fails again, I likely will have reached the end of the line with Vegas. I too have the 570 card and 8 GBs or RAM on an i7. Adobe is rock solid on this same machine. Multicam editing, when it works on 11, is much easier than Adobe, which is why I'm still hanging on. Overall editing is faster with Vegas, but more stable on Adobe.

The features and supposed fixes are great news. If this thing only stayed up for more than, oh say an hour, it could be a real contender. One thing that Vegas has over Adobe, which is huge, is that if you move footage, as we know Vegas can search for it even on one drive. Adobe cannot. Huge aggravation, as I have been rearranging drives for better efficiency. Adobe's titling engine is fabulous, puts Vegas to shame. And of course, you have the dynamic linking to AE. No reason why Sony can't get this improved. New Blue was just horribly buggy.

Al

Just know that I've had issues with using projects created with previous versions. That is, when editing a VP10 veg file on VP11 it has crashed on me. Whereas it's fine if I recreate the VP10 project in the newer Vegas 11 version.

[Tom Pauncz] "Wait until you receive your upgrade invitation, assuming you are already a Vegas user."

I have been on Vegas 8 and have never received an upgrade invitation, apart from the one that pops up when starting Vegas (Net Notify). I didn't even get an email, despite registering my interest. The last cheap upgrade was performed using a link posted to this forum for $139.95 around about this time last year. Hopefully someone gets one such invitation and posts it.

Obviously you didn't get the secret decoder ring in your most recent box of breakfast cereal :)
Go to "My Account - My Software" on the Sony site and you'll see a list of products at the bottom that you can upgrade.
Clicking the "Buy Now" button gives you the special price.
Happy shopping!

There does seem to be some inconsistency about what My Account / My Software and clicking the Buy Now shows. I for one did get a couple of days ago what Mike describes. Now I get the promotional price only through the special e-mail link.

Tried that. My price still comes up as $189, even after placing it in the cart. Maybe it is only available to US customers :-(

Nigel, something wrong with your account.
I'm from AU as well, in my profile the country is AU and I still see discount when I click the link "Buy Now" in My Software.

I had the same problem, the discount showed in my account but didn't follow through when clicked to buy. I called, they answered quickly, and gave me the discounted price.

Out of curiosity, does version 12 ship with a new version of DVD Architect Pro?
