Whenever I render a clip containing a PIP Vegas aborts it; but once I remove the PIP it renders perfectly once more. I’m using Vegas 11 with windows 7 home premium, 32 bit OS, 4G memory. Please help!

It would be helpful if you told us how you are creating the PIP since there is no "PIP" function in Vegas and it can be created several different ways.

Hi John, this is how I create the PIP effect:
Within project media insert a new video track above the existing main clip.
Copy in a new clip onto the new video track to become the picture-in-picture (PIP)
Click event pan/crop on the new clip
Lock aspect ratio must be on.
Move freely (x,y) must be active.
Drag any of the corners of the clip as though you were trying to make the picture bigger.
This results in the video becoming smaller upon the main clip, causing the PIP effect.
Move the “F” around freely until the PIP is placed as required.

OK, so you're using Pan/Crop. That shouldn't cause a problem. Try using Track Motion instead. When you duplicate the clip on another track, press the Track Motion button in the track header and grab a corner and make it smaller. See if that renders without error.

We should still try and figure out why Pan/Crop is not working but I thought I would give you an alternate to try and get you rendering without errors.

Hi John, I used the Track Motion button in the track header to create a PIP just as you suggested, but the render process aborted exactly as before. So, I then deleted the PIP clip on top and the new render completed perfectly, but only without the PIP.

[Malcolm Goldhill] "So, I then deleted the PIP clip on top and the new render completed perfectly, but only without the PIP."
Could it be the PIP clip itself? What format is the video or image? Try rendering with the clip but not as a PIP and see if it's the media itself that is causing the problem.

I replaced the original clip I was using with a fresh clip which rendered sucessfully before creating the PIP. I then created the PIP on the fresh clip using track motion but the render aborted just as before. The format of the clips are AVCHD Video (.MTS) filmed on a Sony HDR-XR150E 120GB HD Handycam.

Hi, did you find the solution to your problem? I do have the same rendering problem in Vegas 12 64 bit version when I have a PIP. I have tried several formats PIP but Vegas keeps hanging when rendering PIP.
I am using Windows 7 on 4gb ram. Very frustrating!

Issue has just been solved!!! Dynamic RAM preview set to zero and it now works. I have already rendered two HD movies!
