Roger's advice is correct for version of Vegas Pro up to version 10.0. For Vegas Pro 11.0 Sony changed a bunch of things and one of them was the "Internet" render templates.
For Vegas Pro 11.0 you should use
MainConcept AVC/AAC (*.mp4) output format with either the
Internet HD 720p or
Internet HD 1080p template for sites like YouTube and Vimeo. These will give you the best output and render a whole lot faster than Sony AVC does if you have a good GPU graphics card.
