I'll try to get it early if I can, but I'll definitely avoid using it until people say the sure to exist bugs will be fixed.

Ron, your guess is as good as mine.
Here's what it was in past years.
2009 - Pro 9 - US$184.95
2010 - Pro 10 - US$139.95
2011 - Pro 11 - US$139.95

You're all going to want this one.

The Layer dimensionality Plugin is awesome.

The Lab Color Space and especially Color match are excellent and for me probably worth the upgrade price alone.

Plus throw in masking of FX - no more extra track workarounds.

Shape Masking Tools looks very useful, I guess I use a lot of masks.

Project Media Tagging looks useful, maybe now I will get organized.

I haven't tried the project interchange yet, but if it works it is going to kick some butt.

This is one sweet update!

Let's hope it is actually stable and has usable CUDA rendering. I spent over $500 for a NVIDIA card I cannot take full advantage of.

With all the added features, they are indeed thorough, extensive
and very impressive. But the number one factor im hoping for is
STABILITY for every Vegas user. Now that would be gold.

I've only spent a couple of hours with it, maybe 3. It did not crash, not even once. But then neither is my install of 11 crashing. I don't know why.

We will see.

[Jeff Schroeder] "I've only spent a couple of hours with it, maybe 3. It did not crash, not even once. But then neither is my install of 11 crashing. I don't know why.
"

I presume you were part of the beta program.

Lucky you not to have crashes in 11. I was able to recover 100% of the time from the crashes, but it was just annoying when it happened. Some days I could not tweak the Video FX without needing to restart Vegas after every second visit to the event, and on other days, nothing.

My system specs: Intel i7 970, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 11 (x32/x64), Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6

Hey Steve,
Like Jeff I have been with it for a few hours. It has been totally stable. I have even been using some JVC 4K footage with no problems.
Again, like Jeff I have had no problems with SVP11 either.

Here is the Sony press release...

SONY DEBUTS NEW TECHNOLOGY AT IBC

AMSTERDAM – Sept. 7, 2012 [IBC Show - The Elicium, Hall 12 stand 12.A10] - Sony Creative Software, a leading global provider of professional editing and authoring applications, will offer show attendees a sneak peek of Vegas Pro 12, the soon-to-be released version of their award winning NLE, along with Sound Forge Pro Mac, the first version of this popular digital audio editor designed exclusively for the OS X platform.

In addition to these technology previews, demonstrations will be provided for SpectraLayers, the newly released audio waveform editing software, and DoStudio, the Blu-ray Disc™ encoding and authoring application.

•64-bit Audio Plug-ins – NEW
The updated plug-ins include the four Noise Reduction 2.0 plug-ins (Audio Restoration, Click and Crackle Removal, Clipped Peak Restoration, and Noise Reduction), along with Acoustic Mirror, Zplane élastique Pro timestretch, and Wave Hammer.

•Project Interchange- NEW
Import and export a wide range of project files to and from Vegas Pro 12. The built-in software can convert between the native .veg file and AAF for Avid ProTools 10, XML for Apple Final Cut Pro 7, Final Cut Pro X (export only), DaVinci Resolve 8, and .prproj for Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and After Effects CS6.

•Smart Proxy Workflow- NEW
Create high-performance, edit-friendly Smart Proxy clips in the Project Media view, to achieve faster playback on a wider variety of hardware. Media will automatically and dynamically switch from original to proxy based on the Preview playback settings.

•Project Media Tagging- NEW
Quickly categorize your media with customizable tags.

•Project Media Updates- NEW
Thumbnails are now optimized for 16:9, and media that is a different aspect ratio than the project will appear letter-boxed or side-pillared. A more prominent border around the thumbnails clearly highlights selected clip(s).

•Vegas Pro Explorer Redesign
The updated Vegas Pro Explorer now features a Thumbnail View, and supports Windows Libraries including My Songs, My Videos, and My Pictures. Auto-text fill and “Breadcrumb Control” similar to Windows Explorer lets you quickly navigate to previous directories on your system. Using CTRL+ the mouse wheel scales the thumbnail images for added image detail during browsing.

•Edit Properties for Multiple Video Files
Select two or more video files in the Project Media window and click the Media Properties button to edit a range of parameters across all of the clips, including field order, pixel aspect ratio, color space, stereoscopic 3D mode, and more.

Also new:

•Color Match
•Panasonic P2 Support
•FX Masking
•Shape Masking Tools
•HDCAM SR™ (SStP) Mastering
•LAB Adjust and L*a*b* Color Space Histogram

Although this announcement does not alleviate the pain of owning Vegas 11 the changes in 12 to the "Pro" side of editing illuminate the reasons why they never fixed 11. They were all working on 12. A redesigned color space means they were building/restructuring a rendering engine to go along with it. They obviously did not want to put resources on fixing what we can all hope to be obsolete problems (which after reading these boards over the last year led me to believe that mathematical inconsistencies between OFX, legacy plugins, and the different color spaces caused 80 percent of the crashes.) Hopefully this also means that the cuda implementation was being ostensibly designed for 12 and that is why it sucked so badly in 11.

Then again 12 could be just more of the same... mostly hype and a patchwork of code from too many development teams over the years.

Does the fact that Version 12 is coming mean that there will be no more patches for 11?

Thanks in advance

I am trying to be as optimistic as you, but Vegas 11 was a real pain. I consider it to be an incomplete release, with constant crashes with anything from the GPU rendering to using the new text, closing an effects window, color correcting...

So, the question is: when we get Vegas 12, will they support us? Or will they leave us alone again to start working on v13?

Yes Emilio, Vegas 11 has been a disappointment,
And to be honest with you, if Vegas 12 follows that
same problematic route that Vegas 11 traveled, then
the future of Vegas will be unsure
. They have to get
Vegas 12 right this time around, there is absolutely
no room for error at this very critical juncture.

I use it everyday, part of my livelihood!

I would love to be a beta tester.

Muke,

I don't know... I thought there was a checkbox on your Sony Creative profile or something, but after looking around I don't think so.

Maybe they are watch activity in the forums, like this one.

I feel privileged (and complimented) to be in the beta group, 'cause I'm nowhere near as smart as guys like John, Spot, Mike and Steve. I'm just trying to get the job done.
