Hi everyone. I'm new to this board. For three weeks I've been trying to get my Sony Vegas 11 to render. Like many people I've been having trouble.

I updated all of the dll files recommended by many to indicate it can use more than 2gigs of ram, I adjusted the render template to "render using GPU if available." One thing I notice is that in the preferences there is no option for accelerating the processor using the GPU. Is the software not recognizing my video card?

I'm editing HD video on a Sony Vaio laptop with Intel Core i5-2450M CPU @ 2.50gHz 6GB ram 64-bit
video processor is Intel HD Graphics 3000

When I render a short clip, under 2 minutes it will render a minute of the video before crashing. Once I get over a couple of minutes it will only render a few seconds of video before crashing. Any suggestions?

There are many people having the same issue as you.
Do you get a completed render if you dont have any form
of effect/filter on the timeline?

Steve,

Thank you. None of the videos I have tried to render have had any effects. One video has a cross-fade, but all are responding the same.

When I first got the computer last month I was able to render one four-minute video twice. The software crashed a couple of times, but it worked enough to render one high-quality version and upolad two versions of the video to YouTube.

Yes, I thought that something might have gotten messed up when I changed the .dll files to reflect >2gb. I reinstalled and it was worse. I then went and corrected the .dll files again, and now I can render about 1 minute of video.

If you are using the 64bit version, try the 32 bit one and make sure
they are the latest build.(Build 682/32bit and Build 683/64bit)

The software came free with my computer as part of the install. Is there a way to change versions and to get the 32 bit software without paying for it a second time?

If the software was properly licensed to you, then you can download and install both the 32 and 64 bit versions free of charge.

As Mike also mentioned, Download and install the latest
build if you are legit.

I downloaded and installed it, but it's also not working. Is it possible the install, which was part of the Imagination Studio Viao Edition, is only a trial? The computer indicated it came with the software. It is letting me open projects and isn't telling me it's expired.

Because your original post said, "I've been trying to get my Sony Vegas 11 to render." everyone here thinks you are running Vegas Pro 11. You are not. You are running Sony Movie Studio 11 which only comes in 32-bit (there is no 64-bit version).
[Alan Murdock] "I updated all of the dll files recommended by many to indicate it can use more than 2gigs of ram, I adjusted the render template to "render using GPU if available.""
You should NOT be changing DLL's and then complaining when things don't work. If Movie Studio was meant to use more that 2GB of memory, I'm sure the developers at Sony would have compiled it to be Large Address Aware but they did not. Once you go changing DLL's there is no telling what damage you have done.
[Alan Murdock] "Is the software not recognizing my video card? I'm editing HD video on a Sony Vaio laptop with Intel Core i5-2450M CPU @ 2.50gHz 6GB ram 64-bit video processor is Intel HD Graphics 3000"
No the software will not recognise your video card because built-in Intel HD Graphics is not supported. You need a separate video card that supports NVIDIA CUDA or OpenCL.
[Alan Murdock] "When I first got the computer last month I was able to render one four-minute video twice."
If the software worked a month ago, and you don't have a backup from a month ago, I would recommend that you find the system restore disk that came with your computer and restore it to it's original condition. Then don't play with the DLL files anymore and everything should be fine.

If you want a 64-bit version of Movie Studio you can upgrade to Movie Studio Platinum 12 which supports 64-bit. You probably qualify for the $64.95 USD upgrade price.
