Hi,

An interview was recorded in a room close to an elevator/lift hall. So, always the lift stops, the "twice trimmm, trimm" ring is recorded.

Does anyone know how to remove/attenuate this ring through Vegas or Izotope RX?

Thanks in advance,
Cadu

first cut out parts where there is the ring but no voice, that is the easy part. parts where the ring is mixed with voice - vegas doesn't deal with that kind of stuff. in izotope you can see the spectrum of your sound, you have to manually cut of the frequencies of the ring. of course some part of human voice claims those frequencies too, so you will either harm your interviewers or will have to leave some traces of the ringing. it must be a compromise. unless the voice is low male one and the ringing is in high frequencies or vice versa but that is probably not the way it is gonna be..

As Paul said, use the Spectral Repair tool in iZotope RX. Select the magic wand tool and find the ring and click the fundamental frequency. Then click it a second time and RX will highlight all of the harmonic frequencies. Then just delete them.

Another option is with the new Sony Spectral Layers program. I was able to remove from an entire half hour program all the cricket chirping sounds and leave my voice and even the birds that were chirping in the background.
I haven't figured out all the nuances with it yet but it can do wonders.

Here's a tutorial about it.

Izotope I think can only remove about 4 seconds of unwanted audio at a time. Spectral Layers can remove unwanted sounds from an entire long program.

although spectral layers indeed is very good, i woudn't exagerate with its possibilities so much. this exact problem which we have here deals with removing frequencies. izotope can do it the same way, using visual interface. but you can do it as well in veeery old program called gold wave which is a very good editor for audio. you don't have wand but you can see the spectral analysis as well. it is called bandpass / bandstop there. the problem is in finding what to stop and what to pass and here comes the spectral layers and izotope... :)))
