my files are too big

My setting are wrong. I am making a movie for youtube. The quality does not need to be high.
I'm rendering it as avi
the file is still too big. I assume I need to change
options, preferences but then what do I change?

I'm using the Sony AVC/MVC setting and then going to the custom setting and changing the bit rate to 4,000,000.
You can reduce that bit size even further if you like or use one of the other templates.

What Roger mentioned is the best option to me for youtube
content....Anything im doing for (youtube, Vimeo, Client preview)
the Sony AVC format is what i continually use with no disappointment.

Believe me, I know it's confusing at first.
1. Drag your mouse over your video and hightlight everything you want to make a video of. (in Vegas language your video and what you have on the timeline is called a "project"
2. Go to "File" and then "Render as"
3. There you'll find a box that says "Save as type:"
4. Select the one that says "Sony AVC/MVC (mp4-m2ts.avc)
5. Just below it there is one that says "Template"
6. Click on that and you'll get a drop down of templates. If you want a small sized video you can select one that says "internet 640x480 30p"
Experiment around a bit. Don't use the 24p which is 24 frames per second. 30p is better which is 30 frames per second.
7. If you want a larger video in HD you can use the "internet 1280x720 30p" but in that case you'll need to go to the "custom" setting and change the bit rate to maybe 4,000,000.
Then give your video a file name and be sure you save it where you know it is.

I had good luck on Vegas 8, uploading videos to YouTube as WMVs.
Do what Roger and Steve said... "File- Render As- " select WMV... pick a nice high bitrate at least 1 mbps. I seem to recall having to actually type in the bitrate I wanted.... it wasn't on the list...
