 | ARGHH! On Deadline: Need to Render alpha channel out
by Ken Matson on May 30, 2012 at 7:06:03 pm |
I've been looking all over the net and trying different things to no avail. I wan to render a short video out of Vegas Pro 11 with the "transparent alpha channel" so that others can pull it in and lay it over the top of whatever.
There are TONS of tutorials and help for how to use an alpha channel video in Vegas, but scarce little on how to create/render one FROM Vegas. I'm on a hard deadline of tomorrow and need to do this on several videos right away.
Here's what I have - I shot over green screen and it looks beautiful, I chroma keyed it over a solid blue media background so I have this wonderful looking video of a pretty young lady talking over this solid blue background. I want to render it so that the blue is the transparent alpha channel and when brought into another project (or another NLE for that matter) leaves just the young lady over the top of whatever they wish. Doing that part is easy - how do I make the alpha channel video? HELPME PLEASE! TIA!

You can render out in Quicktime using the
PNG Video format. Any transparency you have on
the timeline, will be preserved after rendering.
Thats what i always use.

Thank you for the reply - but how do I get a "transparency on the timeline" with my blue color? Can't I just set that blue as the alpha channel somewhere ?

AHHHHH! OK! Got It - something you said about the transparency. I guess I thought it worked different. It is making whatever is transparent the alpha channel. For whatever reason, I had expected to tell it at render time to use "such and such color" as the alpha channel ... got it working now - thanks!
BTW - it works fine with quick time animation.

Yes, but those file sizes are normally bigger and its
easier to work with PNG formats in Vegas.
