I know how to add a mask on an event but I can't seem to see where I can put a mask on an entire track? Thanks for any help.

Masking is only available at an event level. If you want to mask an entire track you could create a black and white mask using generated media and then use that with the Track Compositing mode of Multiply (Mask).
