Vegas 9 keeps crashing importing mov files

I am trying to drop about 300 .mov clips shot with a Canon T1i (720 30p) onto a Vegas 9 timeline. The first few clips I drop on are fine but once I start importing a bunch, I start getting media offline messages and red clips. The program eventually locks up. Any solutions?

It sounds like you are running out of system memory. Also, what version of QT do you have? You may want to see if you can find any errors being reported with Vegas with the version of quicktime you have.
If you drop them on the timeline say 10 at a time, does it do the same then? If not, try this route instead of dumping all 300 at a time.
How much memory do you have and what type of a system are you running Vegas on?

I'm running Vegas Pro 9 on an i7 PC running Vista 64 with 8GB of RAM. Sony FileIOSurrogate.exe seems to be taking up a good amount of memory (over 1GB). I am able to drop files 12 at a time. But once I get to about 50 clips I run into problems with the program crashing. It says physical memory is at 70%. How can I resolve this? Never ran into this sort of problem when editing hours of HDV footage. Thanks.

One of my cameras records 1920 x 1080 mp4 as QT mp4 files. These give similar fits to Vegas 9.0b on a similar system to yours. As a temporary solution, I convert these files in Vision, Nero's rudimentary NLE, to HDV. They convert very quickly, even 2-pass at high quality settings. I keep hoping there will be a fix for this from Sony, or, maybe there is a missing codec that I am not aware of. Good luck.

I appears that fileiosurrogate (the process that 'reads & delivers files to Vegas') has a tendency to crash when it has to read lots of files (perhaps it's also related to the kind of files in your project)
In my example I was editing a 30 minute movie in ProRes HD 1920x1080, and at a certain point (it was around the 16 minute mark) I was getting the most weird errors:
-Red bars on timeline
-Incendentally missing footage when opening a project (you get the dialog box to search for it)
-Random crashes
-Playback window malfunction
These problems appear on Windows XP and Windows 7 (32 bit or 64) when using Vegas 7, 8.1, 9.0 and 9.0a (also either 32 bit or 64).
When I finally figured out what was happening (I lost 2 days cos of this crap) the only 'solution' was to cut my project in half by making two edits of +- 15 minutes.
Even since the last revision I havent seen a "fileiosurrogate crash reading files" bugfix, so I bet Vegas is still broken and it will probably stay that way...
