Vegas 9.0b, Vista 64 and Sony PDW-U1 64-bit firmware clash

Anyone have any ideas?
Well I thought my prayers had been answered with Sony releasing the Vista 64-bit firmware upgrade for the PDW-U1 drive for XDCam disc support.
Oh how wrong I was! Vegas 9.0b on Vista 64 SP1 with all updates will not open if Sony's XDCam 64-bit Vista PDW-U1 Firmware Package V2.42 + U1 Utility + VFAM V2.2.1 is installed. On trying to open 9.0b I get the following error dialogue:
"AN ERROR OCCURRED DURING THE CURRENT OPERATION. THE MICROSOFT .NET RUNTIME COULD NOT BE INITIALIZED"
When you go and look at the details it reports:
"Failed to initialize the common language runtime engine. Please install the .NET Framework (download is available from Windows Update)"
Uninstall the PDW-U1 software and Vegas 9.0b 64-bit runs again, it initializes .NET Runtime with no problems. Vegas 8.0c 32-bit and 9.0b 32-bit will run after the XDCam PDW-U1 firmware is installed with no problems at all. Obviously something related to 9.0b 64-bit! Of course without this drive software the OS won't see the XDCam disc correctly therfore you cannot bring XDCam clips into your system. Currently bringing MXF files in on a 32-bit XP box then pulling them across the network to the Vista 64-bit box... what a PITA that is.
If anyone has got this combo working I would love to know. TIA.
