Audio absent with MPG files in Sony Vegas 6.0a

I have a fairly new Sony Vaio laptop (VGN-AW11M) which runs Vista (Home Premium SP2), and I've installed Sony Vegas 6.0a in it.
I also have a Sony handycam (DCR-SR60) which records video in MPG files. I've run all updates from both Microsoft/Windows and Sony Vaio (though not for Vegas).
My problem:
When I drag the MPG video made with that handycam onto the editing area of Vegas, the audio is not picked up by it, meaning, it does not populate onto the audio track in the editing area of Sony Vegas.
With other video files (AVIs, WMVs, even MPGs from different sources), I've been able to edit the audio normally, as it did populate onto the respective track.
Now, when I play the video with any player (Windows Media Player, VLC, standard home DVD player) it does play the audio normally.
Furthermore, when I edit those same videos in my other laptop (6-year-old Packard Bell with Windows XP), I do get the audio in the audio track, using the same software (I installed the same Vegas cd-rom onto both my laptops).
I need to be able to edit also the audio from these self-made videos in my Vaio.
Can anybody please help me?
Thanks in advance!

Have you both registered your Vegas Software with SONY? As this media is MPEG, and the Main Concept CODEC that deals with MPEG needs to be registered with SONY, I'm starting to see a theme running through this thread.
If you HAVE registered the s/w, on these secondary PCs, then I am out of ideas.
