so i finaly got my HD PVR lastnight and i recorded a couple of clips. I have some in the M2T2 format and some in the MP4 format. They were recorded on a not so good laptop in my room. the laptop has vista and a 1.0ghz processor. I saved them to a portable hardrive and put them on this computer (desktop) running 32bit vista with 200gb of freee space and a Q6660 2.40 ghz processor. when i drag the M2T2 files to the time line in Sony Vegas 8.0 Pro it lags and it wont play at all in the preview screen. So i cant edit them or anything. It wont even let me drag the MP4 files to the timeline because it gives me a little red circle with a line threw it. When i go to open it puts it on the timeline but gives me the same problem. it wont play so i cant record. can someone please help me. I have not downloaded any new drivers or anything for my vegas if that helps. I have been able to do some pretty good editing before without lagging using different file types but these dont seem to work at all. i have also tried turning off all unused processes and background programs including norton but it still doesnt work. i also tried building a dynamic ram preview and that just locks it up.

M2TS files are AVCHD and are a bear to edit depending on the profile used. Make sure that you are using 8.0c so that you get the latest enhancements. Vegas Pro 9.0 does a better job than 8.0 did. You might try downloading the trial of 9.0 to see if it edits them any faster but don't hope for much. Lots of people use Cineform Neo Scene to convert AVCHD into the Cineform codec which is easier to edit. It's probably not worth it just to edit commercials out of TV recordings (which I assume is what you want to do). You might try and find a program that is designed for this (i.e., cuts only editing of AVCHD).
BTW, How do you like the HD PVR otherwise? Do you have to control it from a PC? So you always need a PC connected to your TV? I'd love to find an HD recorder that could just record like a VCR. I want something like the HD PVR that I can just plug a USB hard drive into and record. Why is this so difficult to find? (sorry for my rant)

the pvr is amazing! it was well worth the money. i am using it to record my xbox 360. which is better? vegas 8.0c or 9.0? i have 8.0c. i awesome 8.0 is better because it costs 800$ and 9.0 only costs 150$ but i could be wrong

It sounds like you might be getting Vegas Pro 8 confused with Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.0. They are not the same. Vegas Pro 9.0 is the follow-on to Vegas Pro 8.0 and is priced accordingly but you can upgrade at a discount. The Movie Studio version has limited tracks and less features.
