Rendering cuts off pieces of audio?

I'm editing together a song on Vegas 8. So there are about a dozen clips altogether in the project.
Every time I render the final product as an audio file [I've tried every one: mp3, wav, flac, etc], the final rendered audio file, when played, has huge chunks silenced where there should be music. Usually it starts about half way through, then only about a quarter of the rest of the track is there, the rest is just dead silence.
It's not a "render loop region only" issue, nothing like that. The whole project plays perfectly in Vegas, but it won't render in full. What could be wrong?

What kind of audio files are you using? (WAV, MP3, ?) Are the audio files that render silent the same as the ones that work? Maybe Vegas is having difficulty with some of the source files.

Well, they're all 320 kbps MP3 [transferred from my R-09 recorder], but that's the thing, I first thought it was just having problems with some of the individual clips that make up the project, but it's *portions* of multiple clips that are ending up silent. So if it's having problems with the source files [even though they're fully functional when I investigated them], it's not having problems with the *entirety* of those files?
Also, it's silencing multiple layered clips at the parts where it's silent. So basically, multiple clips are being silenced at the same exact spots. So that can't just be coincidence.
It's basically just randomly-placed silent patches. hm...
