Vegas Pro 9 Trial crashing when I hit render, everytime.
by Paul James Chatman on Aug 23, 2009 at 10:49:41 pm

I created a project, using Digital Juice PowerCuts #1107, Swipes #0369, and StaxxTraxx "Well, Well", some key-framed text with Noise texture added. The whole project was just over 30 secs. It crashed when hit I Render As. It never even went to the Render diaolg. The report says it's the
aviplug.dll file. It's always this file when it crashes. I have Vegas Pro 8 installed as well.
Has anyone had this issue with Vegas Pro 9, how did you resolve it? i submit a error report everytime.

Paul

Hi Paul.

I am not an expert, and this might seem kind of basic, but I have seen your avitar before.

Did the problems begin when you downloaded any Windows Updates, or loaded any new programs or plug-ins?

Can you try a System Restore, or try re-installing your plug-ins, to see if that helps?

The seems to happen to both Vegas 8 and 9. But 9 just crashed as soon as hit render. 8 would crash at a certain point.

The began when i installed Digital Juicer Juicer 3.59. I bought 8 DVD sets of Digital Juice products for video editing (Motion design elements, swipes, Jumpbacks, etc).

The Juicer is a front end for converting and modifying the assets before rendering them out to your project. I rendered them in the native QuickTime format, and figured the files were too big for Vegas on my machine (Athlon XP 2800+ 2.01ghz, 1.5 GB ram, 512MB nVIDIA GF 7600GS).

I did manage to render a small logo revealer from Vegas Pro 8c. But every time Vegas 8 got to a frame that contained a swipe it crashes.

For the Vegas 9 issue I went to Sony's site and downloaded the updated aviplug.dll and placed it Vegas 9 plugin folder. No go. So I uninstalled Vegas Pro 9. But I am still get a full render in Vegas Pro 8. I'll try without the swipes (those are about a 500mb) and see what gives. I tried HD render, it failed, and then sized all the assets to 720x480 (The smallest Juicer will allow for SD) - it still crashes at the swipes frame.

I paid money for those video tools and i want to sue them I have ideas that need to get out of my head and into my videos...uuuggghh! I think I may need a "bigger" PC. 2Ghz ain't cutting it anymore.

Can you upgrade your chip?

That would seem easier than fighting with it.

The fastest CPU my Asus A7V8X-LA Kelut motherboard will take is an AMD 3200+, and since it's Socket A my choices are limited. So I may just get a new motherboard and CPU combo (building PCs from m/b up is fun, I built my old P3 600mhz & 386DX 40Mhz; ahhh good times).

From here, that sounds like it would be a good option.

Just found out that rendering the higher resolutions was causing Vegas Pro 8 and possibly 9 as well to crash. When I lowered the res to 720x480 in a WMV format, it rendered out fine. Albeit in that stupid WMV format. ON YouTube is at HQ - Vimeo is at non-HD. SO I'll try at 1280x720 and see what happens. Then I'll try 1440x1080. I know I can't render at 1920x1080. Oh well. At least 1280x720 is HD on Vimeo and YouTube.

I don't render any animations out of the Juicer. The QuickTime MOV source files work just fine in Vegas and definitely won't hit the avi i/o library.

As far as renders go, you'll probably want 1280x720 anyhow, since that's one of the native Vimeo/YouTube formats. Of course, tomorrow they'll probably support 1080p too... Personally, I've had more luck with the MainConcept AVC encoder than Sony's, but I'm not certain what you get with the trial version anyhow (esp. since the encoders cost Sony money).

I uninstalled the Trial and decided to stick with Pro 8 for now. Anyway, I actually thought it may be the file sizes for the MOV sources, since one JumpBack was over 1 GB. So I DID use the QuickTime format for the SD render that went well. I didn't do any modifications to the files from within Juicer. I just used one JumpBack, a swipe, and logo revealer (http://vimeo.com/6244472) That's actually 720x480 not 710. So I'll use the 1280x720p from now on, and test with 1440x1080.

Thanks guys for your input. I wanna win the lotto so I can buy an 11,000$ Personal Super Computer. (((drooooolll))) have you seen these things???...oogogogogoog
