Slideshow picture duration question(s)
by Rod MacDonald on Aug 10, 2009 at 10:31:41 am

Using Vegas 6 , I know how to reset the duration for a number of still pictures in a track using a process of Select the pictures to modify, then
View->EditDetails->Lengths:highlight all values in Length column and type the required value e.g. 5;0 for 5 seconds per event. This is ideal, however, after doing this, the pictures are all separate from each other i.e. there are now some gaps between each event. Is there a nice easy way to automatically regroup them so that they all sit next to each other. I have auto-ripple set on, but it doesn't move the affected events when changing the duration through the above method.

The only other way which I have found is to select all the events in the track, right-click and click "Select in ProjectMediaList". Then reset the default duration in Option-preferences-Edit, then drag all the still-highlighted media files back onto a new track - this time they have the new duration. (I'll then need to re-apply transitions)

What I am wanting to do is to match the duration of my pictures to the piece of music which I have. Is there is a quicker way of doing this than the methods described above?

Yes there is and, IMO, it's much quicker.
Click the first image, shift+click the last image (to select all of them) and press 'G' to Group them together.
Place you cursor at the end of the last image and hold down the Ctrl key.
The icon should now have a ~ symbol under it.
Hold down the Ctrl key and drag out to the desired length.
I do this a lot for the slide shows I do and it works quite well.

Glad to hear that it worked for you.
It's a trick that I picked up somewhere a long time ago and, as I said, use a lot.
