.SFK File Dillema.
by Jessica Brandon on Aug 3, 2009 at 6:49:07 pm

Hello everyone,
I am new to this site, my name is Jessica Brandon.
I recently downloaded Vegas Pro 9.0 in need of making extraordinary videos. My family and I went on a small vacation and came back just yesterday and I loaded all of my videos and pictures.
I'm wanting to make a remix video of our moments spent together from those videos.
But my files are always opened as Audio and no Video is shown. After, the files are copied into the same folder with the original name with a '.sfk' in front of it.
I understand what those are for, but is there any way I can get the video back? I'm in desperate need of help. I need to make this video in a week or two urgently for personal reasons.
Please let me know if there is a solution for this problem, it would mean a lot!
Thanks so much.
With regards,
J. Brandon

What kind of camera/camcorder did you use?
What type of files are they (i.e. DV, DVD, HDV, AVCHD, etc.)?

Firs off, thanks for the reply! :)

Um, I use the "Jazz" camcorder. Have you ever heard of that company?
And, the videos are mixed between Normal Digital Video and High Definition Video. Because Jazz has the "make-videos-in-high-definition" command, I mostly used the high definition for my videos.

Any way my problem can be resolved?

Thanks again .
J. Brandon

"Um, I use the "Jazz" camcorder. Have you ever heard of that company?"

I haven't so I Googled it and I have to say that I'm not that impressed.
Once again a manufacturer has made a camera without any thought given as to how someone is supposed to edit it.
I don't suppose any software came with it?

I found some clips online but ran into the same problem you did, audio w/o video on both Vegas 8 Pro and 9 Pro :-(

According to GSpot Codec Information Appliance, the file format is H.264/MPEG-4 AVC.
It will play in Windows Media Player but Vegas can't play this file because it doesn't have the proper codec installed.
I found references to people installing the KLite codec package but that's something most Vegas users recommend NOT doing as it installs a lot of useless garbage along with it.
All I can suggest is checking the manufacturer's web site (if there is one) for a codec.
If there isn't, start Googling and see if you can find a recommendation for a single codec that may work.

Alright. Thanks so much for your help :)

Hmm, I actually found an easier, yet long way to do it. I simply went to "http://www.zamzar.com" and converted my .AVI files to the 'wmv' format. That's the main video format and I noticed that Vegas Pro opens the wmv with video.

First, thw video won't even open in my Windows Media Player. Now it all functions fine. Yes, it takes long to convert but it's worth the wait I suppose. Well for me at least! :)

Again, thank you so much for all the help. I really appreciate it!

Take care,
J. Brandon
