Rendering for Quicktime...

I have a composer that works in ProTools. He is requiring for me to give him my Vegas Pro 8.0c project to him in a Quicktime format. I tried to render with the default Quicktime settings, and pretty instantly it tells me it's not a supported format. I then went into the settings where it says video format. I selected DV/DVC Pro NTSC and set it for Progressive.
It seems to be going forward now, but I'm going to bed and it says that it has 2 hours to go. I figured I will probably get the correct instructions from someone at Creative Cow and they will be waiting for me in the morning.
7 hour Quicktime Render for 5 minute Vegas Project? by Owen Myers on Jul 13, 2009 at 6:29:17 pm
Thanks again for the advice on the settings for Quicktime Rendering.
I used the Animation Codec and just like mpeg-2 it is taking 7 hours to render a 5 minute project. And that's on my fast quad core desktop. My slower dual core laptop wants to take 14 hours. How do I speed up this process? Or is there no speeding it up?

The source footage is from a Sony HDRFX7. Mini DV. The full HD tapes.
No FX. A thousand little cuts but nothing special.
Now I'm over the 7 hour thing, I just want the end result to be usable in ProTools.
- My first attempt, I set the video format to mpeg-2 in the Quicktime render. After I tried that, I tried to use just the rendered files in ProTools. No dice. I tried to render that file to DVD in Architect. It won't even play in the Quicktime on my PC.
- Steve from Creative Cow told me to try the Animation or Photo jpeg Codec instead of mpeg-2.
- Is one better than the other?
- Do I just copy the rendered files onto a disc for ProTools or do I then render them to a DVD in Architect.
However I need to do it, I need a Quicktime movie in the end.

What rendering time are you getting with either of my
recommendations?
You can choose either one, and you'll get good result either way.
and when you are done, just save it as file on a disc (data disc)
as Mike said....then just hand that over to your Pro-tools guys.

With Animation, the rendering time for a 5 minute short was 10 hours.
With Photo, it was 7.
To render a standard mpeg-2 for architect takes 40 minutes.
There are a lot of visual cuts, because of all the sound cuts (ex. to drop a floor creak and insert roomtone). But nothing special at all. 1 video track. 9 audio tracks.
I don't know what takes so long, but I guess it is what it is.
