Vegas crashing on MOV imprt
by Kris Kazmer on Jul 4, 2009 at 1:19:15 am

I am using Vegas Movie Studio 9. I create a new document to import MOVs from my HD Aiptek camera. I set my project to 720x480 (30 fps). My .MOV files are on my desktop so I click and drag them into the 'Project media' area. As soon as I do, it says "An error occured during the current operation. An exception has occured."

This is VERY frustrating as I am doing videos for a paysite and NEED to get my work done. This happens 99.9% of the time. If I am lucky enough to get my video in without crashing, I will begin to edit the video but if I switch to another application, or respond to an IM from someone and click back to Vegas, the error pops up again, crashes, and I loose all my work. I'm sick and tired of this happening. Please let me know anything I can try. I've already tried changing the .MOV extension to .AVI but have no luck. Thanks in advance!

Your Aiptek camera stores video in a non-standard format that Vegas cannot use. Read this article by Keith Kolbo to find out how to fix this:

Using GO-HD files in Sony Vegas Pro 8

It will require that you purchase Quicktime Pro.

FANTASTIC, thanks for the help. I was worried converting through QTP first would result in some quality loss but it still looks great. Thanks again!

You're welcome but Keith Kolbo deserves all the credit for figuring this out. What you have is the original video because it was the audio that was causing the crash so the video just gets passed through unaltered and the audio gets re-encoded.
