Changing video size to 1920x1080 in mp4 format
by Kevin Kim on Jun 30, 2009 at 4:31:40 am

I am trying to render a video in 1920 by 1080 in mp4 format (in Sony Vegas 7). But when I set the size in the custom template to width: 1920 and height: 1080, the height changes to 1088 when I move the selection out of the text box. How can I prevent this?

Which render type? MainConcept AVC or Sony AVC? If one doesn't work try the other. It may just be a limitation of the MPEG4 support in Vegas 7? (sorry, I can be of more help but I'm using Vegas Pro 9.0)

I am using MainConcept AVC because Sony AVC seems to limit the size at 720x480. MainConcept AVC seems to slightly change the numbers on the Width and Height no matter what number I enter in (except for 1280x720).

Hmmm... It sounds like you just found your reason to upgrade to Vegas Pro 9.0. Vegas 7 is two releases behind now and so it's HD and MPEG4 support are also two release behind. There are no such restrictions in Vegas Pro 9.0... in fact, the Sony AVC render type is what you use to make HD 1920x1080 25MBps Blu-ray discs.

Typically if you see 1088 it means the renderer added 8 pixels to get even 16pixels blocks for let's say 'compatibility'... I'd check the profile/baseline settings if there are such settings in V7 for this codec.

Although I don't think I've seen that with MainConcept but haven't used v7. At least in V8 you can override the size with the Sony Vegas AVC.

Actually I should correct this to say it 'reports' format as 1088...
