Hi

Does Sony Vegas Pro8 have the capability to split .avi files into smaller chunks?

Any version of Vegas can split files into as small a chunk as you want by using the S (Split) key.
If you want to save the smaller file, you have to render it out in the original format and then bring it back in again.
There's no quality loss doing it this way.

Thanks Mike! That makes sense. I assume I will render the set "region" where the new split .avi resides on the timeline.
