If you don't know... you probably are not.
Go into Start | All Programs | Accessories | Entertainment | Volume Control and choose Options | Properties and select the Recording radio button and press OK. Make sure that any output like "Stereo Mix" or "Wave Out" is NOT selected. Just select the input that you want to record from (Mic in or Line in). You should now be recording from just that input and not the whole project.

You have to be using some sort of audio device to record audio unless your using a virtual audio cable to record from one program to another. Go to your Windows control panel and click on the speaker icon that says sounds and audio devices. What is listed for your default recording and playback? Are you using a USB or firewire audio device? The reason I said onboard sound card is some of their mixers give you the option to record "What you hear" instead on your line in, which is what your supposed to use. What are you recording and where do you have it plugged into your computer? Danny
