Need help fast! Dropping frames
by Michael O'Connor on Aug 13, 2008 at 6:32:53 pm

Client wants vhs to dvd today. I have vegas 7 and normally this is no problem. For some reason I am now dropping frames as the vhs is coming into the computer thru vegas capture. I have tried everything I know of to no avail. I just put a new hard drive in to see if the old drive is bad but the frames are still dropping. I have tried going out, shutting down and restarting several times but nothing seems to help. I have done this many times before without this problem. Suggestions? Using canopus advc 100 to transfer to digital. Thanks.

FOLLOWUP...I just realized that the input is stopping even without it being on record...just the preview as the vhs is running. The actual vhs playback on my tv monitor looks fine, no delays, but the monitor on vegas preview when the signal is coming in is stopping then starting again, even though the vhs monitor is fine. ???

Had a similar problem not long ago. The VHS in question was of poor quality in that case. I corrected the issue by sending the VHS video thru another deck before the capture card. Might have been a Sony UVW-1800. A TBC frame syncronizer would also be a good processor for that purpose. Or try dubbing the VHS to DVCam and then capture the DVCam. Or, loop the video thru a small HandyCam with analog inputs and firewire output. Good luck.
