HD work flow
by Glenn Delaune on Jul 23, 2008 at 8:07:59 pm

Hi there, I have stumbled upon a good HD work flow that works for me and I was wondering if anyone else uses these settings.

I am shooting on a Sony HVR-A1U HDV camera, capturing my HDV footage, editing in Vegas 8Pro with the project properties set to HDV1080-60i. At this setting the only thing that has to render are dissolves or any video FX or text FX I add to the time line. If it's just straight cuts and no FX, when I output the file the preview window reads "NO RECOMPRESSION NEEDED" (and it is very quick). This outputs a final .mt2 file. I then use DVD Architect with the project settings set to NTSC DV Widescreen so essentially letting DVD Architect do the only compression. I viewed a short finished DVD on my LCD HD TV and it looks beautiful, very smooth, no artifacting. I guess though if I would have an hour long video with special features etc. the compression would be higher and it wouldn't look as good. Doing all this on a laptop, Core 2Duo, 2gigs RAM, external USB Hard Drives.

Just wanted to share this with anyone who might be interested.

Thanks,

Glenn
