Project properties for HDV
by Mary Waitrovich on Jul 21, 2008 at 3:01:10 pm

Starting with HDV footage that will end up on DVD and the web, does it matter (for final quality) if the project properties in Vegas as set to HDV or NTSC Widescreen for the editing process? In other words, it better to edit with the project at the native resolution of the footage or at the highest resolution of the final output?

Thanks,

It is better to work at the resolution of the footage (HDV) so that all of the titles and other generated media are created at the same HDV quality. Then just render the project for DV Widescreen and the titles should look better than if you created them in a DV project to start with because they are coming from higher quality source. This has the added advantage of giving you the option of producing an HDV version in the future should the client ask for it.
