Re: where do I install dX and vst audio plug ins? by John Rofrano on Jul 21, 2008 at 2:35:09 am
DX plug-ins are registered with Windows. They usually come with their own installer that does the registration for you. If not, I beleive you can drag them onto the Vegas interface and it will register them.
VST's can be anywhere you'd like as long as you tell Vegas where to scan for them. The default location is: C:Program FilesVstplugins

I am not seeing VST under preferences. I am using Vegas 5.0(lates version I think it is build C).
I have use amplitube Live before in it and T-Racks but had to reinstall on a new drive and can't get it to work. there is a VST folder but Vegas is not finding it.

I think I figured part of my problem. It seams I was using amplitubeLE before(it has a directX plug in). now I am trying to instal AmplitubeLive 2 (VST). I tried installing the VST to DX adapter (demo version). I don't think it is working right. I select in in the plug in manager and it has a couple blank black boxes that show up in the plug in veiwer. (doesn't work with XP?)
I have been trying to install some free DX plug ins Blue Cat and Freeverbx. Freeverbx doesn't seam to have an installer just a W98 activation. I have installed blue cat in the defalt folder but they don't show up in vegas. I think I will try down loading the demo of Vegas 8 and see if I can get any of this to work with it.

downloaded vegas 8.0 Pro demo and now I can see that it was the DX version that was packaged up with the plug-in that I was using as it shows up twice in vegas 8.0 both as a DX and as a VST. I like how easly 8.0 keeps track of plug-ins and it is nice to have a real audio mixer. It should have been added a long time ago.
I don't like that the program automaticaly opens up with the time line on the bottom. I know why they did it and I found how to change it.
I can see I am going to have to up grade to 8.0 to run all the cool studio plug ins and toys that I want get like Amplitube Meatl and Classic Studio Reverbs for my hobby recording.
I use Vegas primarly for pro video editing but for fun I compose and recod msuic with it.
I never could get the rest of BLue Cat plugs to work even in 8.0.
